A month or so ago, I decided I was going to put more effort into actually trying new things, saying ‘yes’ more often and generally opening myself up to opportunities. I guess I am a natural pessimist at heart because I often don’t try something because I think I won’t be successful. On the other hand, I can be very good at faking confidence when I need to.

So this started, quite simply, by me pitching for some new work. I’ve been working for pretty much the same clients and through the same sites since I first arrived in Bali and work has been slow for a while. Due to being pregnant or looking after a small baby for 2 years, I haven’t really been working much but I decided it was time to drum up some new business. To my surprise I ended up being successful in two out of the three jobs I pitched for, over many other people. They are small jobs (though one is ongoing, a few hours a week) but I don’t want to take on more than I can handle with two small children to look after at the moment. Small but successful steps.

I also got some very exciting news this morning which I will be sharing with you shortly (no, I’m not pregnant!), again as a result of just trying something even though I didn’t think I was going to be successful. I have lots of plans and things I can’t wait to get started on. I’m really amazed of what you can get when you just make a tiny bit of effort. Sometimes when you ask the universe, the universe says yes.
