I’ve been feeling burned out from work and long overdue for a break for a while, plus we haven’t had any time properly alone together since the wedding (no honeymoon!) so we decided to take a drive up the coast and spend a couple of nights in Amed last weekend. Despite living here for 15 months, I’ve really not seen much of Bali outside of the Ubud area and the usual tourist haunts when we take people on tours and I’ve not been any further North than Padang Bai, so it was nice to see some new scenery.

Amed is the perfect place to relax because there’s absolutely nothing to do. It’s a popular diving and snorkelling area as there’s a large coral reef within a few metres of the shoreline and there’s also an old wreck not far off the coast. If you’re not into diving (like us!) you’re pretty much restricted to swimming, sleeping, eating, lounging and reading. Fine for me! Iwas just happy to get away from the computer for a couple of days. Made is not so good at relaxing and was going out of his mind with boredom after the first night :p

Anyway was really nice to recharge our batteries and just spend a little while doing absolutely nothing without feeling guilty about it. We even saw some dolphins! I told Made I think we should go on holiday every weekend. Sadly he doesn’t agree…

We also stopped in Tirta Gangga on the way home to take some photos of the rice terraces and have a look around the water palace:
