Contrary to what the Eat Pray Love movie would have you believe, Ubud has no beach.We are however only half an hour away from the coastal village of Sanur and we do like to take a trip down there from time to time (not often enough) in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is not quite so strong.
My dad is here at the moment and we’ve been trying to take more trips out so we took a little trip down to Sanur in the afternoon the other day. We usually go to one of the tourist beaches behind the big hotels as they’re cleaner but this time we decided to head down to the local beach – packed with families, screaming kids, kite flyers and lumpia (spring roll) and barbecued sweetcorn sellers.
Maya seems to have overcome her fear of the ocean and practically threw herself into the waves. Kiran is stil not convinced but he LOVES the sand (in contrast to Maya at his age who refused to walk on it). Both kids spent a happy couple of hours making sandcastles and digging and we got to sit back and relax while they ran around (apart from a few occasions of running after Kiran who was in pursuit of a doggy).
I’m thinking we might have to make a beach trip a weekly tradition
kids always look so free and relaxed at the seaside! It’s the freshness of the oxone! Maya and Kiran look so much in their element, I think you are right about a weekly trip! Keep those happy pictures coming!
Oh, and good for mum and dad too if you can sit and chill and then take cute photos!
I would give anything to be able to transport myself to that beach right now! 🙂
I think it’s amazing that, given the distance between your homes, you are able to spend so much time with your parents – you definitely seem to spend much more time with them than I do with mine and they’re (almost) in the same country. It must be lovely when they visit 🙂
yes it is lovely, we’re very lucky 🙂 My dad comes out twice a year now and he’s talking about maybe coming and staying with his wife for 6 months. My mum comes out once a year too – she’s coming at the end of October 🙂 Maya’s now at the age when i can just send her off to go for a walk or go swimming with grandad and she’s fine and happy (although there is still a slight language barrier as she understands english but won’t speak it!). Can’t wait till Kiran stops being so clingy – hurray for free babysitters :p
