Well I experienced my second earthquake here the other night (Friday 12th February), although everyone managed to sleep through it (it was the middle of the night) and I didn’t even know about it until Made’s sister told me. Apparently it was even stronger than the one in September that caused Made to run outside in a panic with no clothes on and he told me that was the strongest one they’ve ever had that he remembers. Hmm. I’m just hoping the reason it didn’t wake us up is because we’re living in a super strong earthquake-proof house :p

Anyway I’ve not posted any pretty pictures here in a while so I thought I’d put on up from a day trip we went on a few weeks ago.

Nungnung waterwall, Bali

This is Nungnung waterfall which I highly recommend going to visit while you’re in Bali. I think it took us about an hour driving from Ubud to get there.

Nungnung waterfall is about 50 metres high and goes straight down into the ground – the river flowing down from the base of the waterfall is very calm and shallow (we could easily walk around in it and get quite close to the waterfall as you can see in the picture below) so I’m assuming 90% of the water goes straight into the ground, god knows how deep, and then flows underground to some mystery localtion. It’s really quite an impressive site, especially if you go in rainy season when there’s a lot of water flowing (I imagine it would be quite scary on day where it’s actually pouring with rain).

Nungnung waterfall

You have to walk down hundreds of steps to get to this waterfall and then go back up so prepare yourself for some exercise! There are several little rest stops on the way so it’s not that bad.

There weren’t that many tourists there when we went – mainly domestic tourists. The more famous waterfalls like Gitgit can get kind of busy in high season so Nungnung is a good alternative if you prefer going to less touristy places.
